Champion for Children Honorees

Todd Arky

Since the inception of Experience Camps in 2009, Todd Arky has volunteered at Experience Camps every summer, logging over 2,000 hours supporting grieving kids. He's been a bunk counselor, a College League Dean, and a Unit Leader. He has hosted talent shows, anchored human pyramids, and crawled through mud for the delight and entertainment of kids.

Todd joined the Board of Directors in 2013, where he made a difference in even bigger (and cleaner) ways. During his tenure, the organization expanded to 5 new locations, grew its reach 700%, and evolved from a small, scrappy start-up to a leader in the field of childhood grief. Todd served two terms as Board Chair and was active on numerous board committees, nurturing and fortifying the culture of the Board for nine years.

When he's not at camp, Todd is an active investor and advisor for various early-stage businesses, including Slice, Greenhouse, Sharebite, Sideline Swap and Seamless, where he was a co-founder and the EVP of Sales and Business Development. He is the husband of another amazing human and ExCamps volunteer, Melanie, and dad to Danielle and Morgan.

MrBallen Foundation

When former Navy SEAL John Allen-better known to his podcast and Youtube followers as MrBallen-spins a tale about the Strange Dark and Mysterious, he knows that at the heart of each story he tells are real people whose real lives have often been shattered by crime or violence.

And his audience knows it too. After thousands of his followers reached out to MrBallen asking if there is something they can do to help victims and families-in July 2022 John created the MrBallen Foundation.

Supported by large and small contributions from MrBallen's company and from his listeners and followers, the goal of the foundation is to honor victims and support families of heinous crimes through education, training and financial support. In just over 6 months, the Foundation has distributed more than $465K in direct grants.

About Experience Camps

We believe that every child deserves to live a life rich with possibility.

Experience Camps, founded in 2009, is a national, no-cost program for grieving children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. Our one-week, overnight summer camp, year-round programs, and content help to reframe the experience of grief, and empower kids with the necessary coping skills to move forward with their lives. Through compassion, connection, and play, Experience Camps allows grieving children to embody a life full of hope and possibility.
